Goodbye 2017!

The end of the year is finally at our feet, we have gone through many ups and downs. I’m so ready for 2018 to begin, lots of intentions have been set and I can’t wait to see what the new year brings. Today I’m sharing a spread + reading I mashed together to close out the year and bring in the new. If you use this spread, let me know in the comments!

I used the Next World Tarot for this reading for myself! This deck just landed yesterday and I am over the moon! I will be talking more about this deck soon on the blog, I have a lot to say about it… it’s just amazing, I’ll leave it at that.

From the book “you will soon know the depth of your magic” gave me chills down my spin. Most of 2017 has felt a lot like I was always starting over, again and again. I can’t even count how many times I said “fresh start” every month. I constantly felt like a beginner in all aspects of my path and practice, yet I knew I was not, I just couldn’t feel it. This card suggests to me that I’m ready to evolve onto the next stage that I have been preparing myself for  this year. I’m ready to the take the next step in my evolution. While I’m leaving this behind in 2017, I will still have it with me as a reminder.

My first priorities in 2018 will be to take new leaps forward without worry, it’s time to clean the slate and embrace the unknown. When starting out on new adventures, we never know what the end result will be… we may have an idea, but in reality, that all can change at the drop of a dime. The Fool is here to let me know that I need to start the new year with no set expectations, take it one day at a time and prepare for the unexpected. I always see the Fool as an archetype of trying new things without expecting anything to happen, it’s about curiosity with no judgement. We may not understand how something works and that’s ok, we’ll soon figure out the pieces to the puzzle as time goes on.

My focus in the new year will be to give no fucks, plain and simple. The woman in this card is totally focused on herself at the moment and she clearly doesn’t give a shit, I treasure this since I’m constantly worried about what others are thinking of me or if I’m doing something wrong. This is all about a “you do you” type of vibe radiating from this card, embrace the energy of not caring what others are doing and put more emphasis on what I’m doing! I also get a strong self care vibe from this card, this is an intention I have already set for 2018 so it was nice to see it show up here, it confirms that this is what I truly need in 2018.

I’m leaving behind the Page of Wands because I’ll be learning how to come into my power as the Queen of Wands. What a transformation! Being that this is a card transitioning from the Page, it tells me to be open to the teachings yet to come and soak in all the lessons being sent my way to help transform into the energy of this card. The Queen of Wands is asking me to step into my true magic, and I’m ready! While I have practiced and played around as the Page of Wands, fine tuning my creative actions and passions, I’m ready to put everything into use and share it with others.

One thing that stood out the most to me in this reading was the growth happening between the Page of Wands and the Queen of Wands. I’m leaving behind the Page role and learning to move into a Queen role, it’s time to move this creative energy into a more vibrant energy in my life. I have been in practice and it’s time to put everything I have learned to use. I also love seeing the Fool in this reading, it’s exactly how I feel going into 2018. I have a lot of visions to manifest!

After taking a step back to look at this reading, one thing I noticed was the directional of movement happening with the Fool and 4 of Cups. They are both facing the Queen of Wands and heading in that direction.

Between the first card and last card are the stages needed to progress. It’s like, once I let go and relax into myself I am then able to put on the crown.

The 2-Card “Bad Mood” Spread

I’m sure we all have those days where nothing seems to go right and your stuck in a frustrating mess that you just can’t snap out of. Yesterday, that was me! I was having a really bad day and it wasn’t directed towards anything in general – just a blah day. I decided to sit out on the patio to get some fresh air (it was gloomy and sprinkling, my kind of weather!) with a tarot deck and ended up pulling a few cards that inspired this simple 2-card spread. I’m a fan of quick spreads, ones that get straight to the point – this may or may not be a new spread at all due to its simplicity!

1 – What is causing my bad mood?

Let’s get to the heart of the matter, dig up what is really causing your funk today! This card will help you see the bigger picture and bring more focus to what may be bothering you today.

2 – How can I shift out of this mood?

Treat this card as an action to take or how you can shift your perspective.

If you ever want more detail on a card, here is a method I use to dig a little deeper! Place the card in question back into your deck and reshuffle… then find that card again and pull out the card in front and behind it in the deck. Those two cards are your extra details!

Spread in action! I used the Circo Tarot for this mini reading and it was just the slap I needed to snap myself out of the funk I was in… I should have turned to my cards earlier!

5 of Pentacles

I really didn’t feel money was the reason for my mood, even though we’re a couple days away from pay day and having some spending money would be a nice mood booster – it just felt deeper than that. My attention was drawn to the negative space where the footsteps were, it’s like they are purposely avoiding the coins buried in the snow. It hit me! All day I have been adding to my bad mood by staying so fixated in feeding this frustration by focusing solely on the negative aspects of my day that I wasn’t willing to see anything positive. There were highlights in my day that could have turned this mood around if only I had only taken the time to open my eyes and realize them. Not to mention there were many people that could have cheered me up if I reached out to them!

The Chariot

The action was clear! In order for me to move out of this blah headspace I need to actually steer myself in a new direction and take charge on how I want to feel. I’m the driver and if I’m going down Sad Avenue it’s because I’m directing myself there. Just like driving an actual car, if you reach a dead end you turn around and try another route. Just like that, I took the advice of the Chariot and changed my perspective and direction by switching my focus to the positive notes in my day. I decided to take back the power of how I feel!
